Ubuntu、Debianにはlibnotify-binやpidgin-libnotify、 mail-notificationあたりのパッケージで利用する、MacでいうGrowl的な通知機能がある。この表示位置は標準で右下になっているが、その変更方法を見つけた。

たとえば画面の右上に通知されるようにするには、~/.gconf/apps/notification-daemon/%gconf.xmlに以下のように記述する。

詳細については /usr/share/gconf/schemas/notification-daemon.schemas に記述されていた。

Allowed values: "top_left","top_right","bottom_left" and "bottom_right"

システムツールの設定エディタでも同様の設定が可能であるが、標準状態では~/.gconf/apps/notification-daemon/ というディレクトリが存在しないためか、エディタだけによる設定は困難であった。手作業でやった方が早そうである。

とりあえずこれで画面の右下をわざわざみなくてもよくなった。うれしい。
